5 reasons why you should dress up every day

I know - it's just oh-so-easy to throw on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt and put your hair up in a topknot, especially these days, where this has (?! somehow ?!) become a fashion trend. But there are benefits to dressing nicely every day that can not only improve your self-esteem, but improve certain aspects of your life. It may take a few extra minutes in the morning, but I promise you, it's worth it - and here are 5 reasons why.

1. You never know who you'll run into.

You could be out getting groceries on a Sunday morning in your sweatpants and Uggs and who do you run into but your boss? A business associate? A potential client? An old flame? All of these options are terrible, and it could happen anywhere, anytime. Do you want to be the topic of that gossipy conversation that happens later ("I ran into my ex at Safeway and she looked terrible!")?

2. It boosts your confidence - big time.

You should look in the mirror and love what you see. If you don't, it's time to make a change - and what better way to start off than with a fashion boost? Finding items that give you confidence are absolutely crucial in controlling how you feel about yourself.
How fabulous do you feel when you dress up for a night out on the town, do your hair and makeup, and put on a killer outfit? You should have that strut every day.

3. It's an opportunity to improve your style (and yourself!) every day.

If you dress for work during the week and "give up" on your clothes the rest of the time, how are you supposed to find your sense of personal style? Your clothing should be helping you to grow, learn, and improve on what makes you You.

4. It affects how people treat you.

We are socially conditioned, as humans, to react more respectfully to people who look... well... respectful. There have been numerous social experiments conducted that prove this theory (oh look, here's one). And while I agree that people shouldn't judge you based on what you're wearing or how you did your hair, they will, and you do it too.

What message do you want to be sending out to the world? Do you want to look sloppy, disheveled, stressed, boring? If that's the message you want to send out to the world, then by all means, throw on those Lululemon's with your winter boots and go to town. But chances are, there is a slightly different message you'd like to portray.

5. It inspires others.

I work in an industry that is, inherently, very stylish. Because I find myself surrounded by fabulous and fashionable people every day, it inspired me a long time ago to become one of them. There is hardly a worse feeling than thinking you are the sloppiest, or worse dressed, person in the room, and it will kill any confidence you had.
